For financial, environmental & geo-political reasons, urgently finding ways to reduce our home energy usage is more important than ever. So to find “what our home’s energy usage & efficiency is”, “what level of comfort we want to achieve” and “what improvements & financial aids will help us get there”, try the following –
✅ Find your kWh – your home’s annual kWh (how much energy used per hour) can be quickly totted up from your last 6 utility bills. Armed with this knowledge, go to bonkers.ie or switcher.ie and switch to a 100% renewable energy provider. It’s simple, only takes 5 minutes, and will probably save you lots of money too!
✅ Get a GDSEC Energy Audit – this will assess home temperature, humidity, thermal leakages and appliance energy usage as well as provide cheap improvement tips. Available November to February each year, contact us if you would like to avail of this free service.
✅ Have a BER done – this shows home energy consumption and how best to improve comfort while reducing bills and carbon emissions. (It details more substantial improvements than the GDSEC Audit).
✅ Avail of Energy Grants – go to seai.ie/grants/home-energy-grants for a rundown on financial supports and check out provider schemes like “Energia Cosy Homes” too.
✅ Join our local SEC – contact us at Greystones & Delgany Sustainable Energy Community to see if you can avail of economies of scale from bulk buying renewable systems (like our Solar Meitheal Programme) with other like-minded local households.
So let’s learn how to power our sustainable energy future!
